Web Design
This is a brief rundown of various websites I have created.
Westcountry Anime
Version 1
(Retired) Westcountry Anime is the Anime and Manga society of Plymouth. Founded by myself and two friends in 2006, the club has now been running for 3 years and has a strong member base. The Image to the left shows the first version of the website, created shortly after the club was founded. The website is now on its third version, while the forums have a strong userbase, with many of the regular members being from outside the Plymouth area.
This version of the website was created to provide a front-end to important announcements made on the forum and to provide information about the club.
Version 2
(Retired) Version 2 of the website brought a cleaner, lighter interface, as well as an opportunity for users to log into the forums directly from the front page. An RSS feed of the front page announcements is made available, as well as the number of posts and Private Messages that have been made since the user's last visit.
Version 3
(Live) This version of the website was launched in late 2008, and is, in terms of the design, a hybrid between the first and second version. This version takes the Devon flag as its main inspiration, using green and white sections with thick black borders in between.
This version also provides added user participation with users being able to upload videos to the site, as well as links to the club's Facebook group and twitter page. The site is also capable of internationalisation with the use of language files.
Michael Dodd .net
Version 1
(Retired) This website was initially created as a blog/soapbox for myself, to post thoughts and opinions as well as act as a place to showcase projects I have created. However, over time, the site became more centred towards photography and general projects.
Version 2
(Retired) Originally intended as a new start to the site, this became more of a placeholder due to a lack of available time. This version of the website focussed more on musical projects.
Cornwall Anime
(Live) Cornwall Anime was established in mid-2008 for fans of Anime and Manga in Cornwall. The website was created in Mid-2009 to act as a centralised place to discuss various topics and arrange meetings throughout the county.
In a similar fashion to Westcountry Anime, the website acts as a front-end to the forums, with important posts and general information appearing on the main pages. The design and colour scheme is based around the existing logo created by Paul Bertowski and the St Piran flag.
Anime @ Armadacon
(Live) This site was created for Anime @ Armadacon, an Anime and Manga event taking place from 31st October - 1st November 2009. Keeping in with the Space theme of the event, the site uses a black, dark blue and white theme. As well as providing general information about the event, directions to the location are provided via Google Maps.
